about

Jed:
This song goes out to Mario Sevayega above all. I wish he could have sung on the finished track - but ironically, the night we recorded it he blew off Denny's for the first time in five years.

The group vocals and table-banging (which almost got us thrown out) were recorded in Albany's late, lamented Western Ave. Denny's on a portable DAT recorder with a stereo microphone. Most of the best moments of my Albany time happened in that Denny's (not the one on Wolf Road, which was always too crowded, and CERTAINLY not the one on Central Ave., where the fryer and shake machines never both worked on the same night).

The Hanslick Rebellion hit that Denny's after each gig, plus every Tuesday for Cream of Potato Soup Night. My dish of choice: the All-American Slam with biscuits and gravy. Good fer ya!

John Delehanty painstakingly threaded the Denny's recordings together with the studio-recorded music.

The first time I played this in Albany was at Mother Earth's Café in January, 1998. There were a bunch of high school kids there who really got into it. They wanted to sing along, so they made me play it again and again until they knew all the words.

lyrics

Denny's 3am
Anybody down
For coffee
Dunkin' Donuts
Chinese takeout
Denny's 3am
Everybody in
Mix tape
Music sounds best
In my car to
Denny's 3am

Denny's 3am
Breakfast anytime
Pancakes
Bacon, OJ
Never too late
Denny's 3am
Everybody in
Flirting
With the waitress
Smoking section
Denny's 3am

Sun came up and I would drop you home
Until home was far away
And my car got old and died
Now it makes me sick to find
Our defiant shine
Trapped in
Photo albums
Love it
Miss it
Put it away and move on

Sun came up and I would drop you home
And I hope that you are home
When I ring you up and see
If you still remember me
Like I remember you
In my
Photo albums
Love it
Miss it
Denny's 3am
Breakfast anytime
Meet you
Hold you
Brother
Never too late
Denny's 3am.
