about

Jed:
I worked at Success magazine from February through May, 1999. Then Success, believe it or not, went bankrupt. The entire staff was let go, and I began a summer of collecting unemployment.

I had fucked up my car's engine, leaving myself trapped in my parents' house in Farmingdale. Every afternoon I would walk two miles in 95-degree heat to the post office, check the band's PO Box (ALWAYS empty), have lunch at McDonald's, and walk home. Then I'd sit around, too depressed to do much of anything.

I don't think it's healthy to "disremember" the worst times of your life. Someday you may need the perspective. So I'm glad I was able to muster up the initiative to write this pained plea from "The Cutting-Room Floor."

lyrics

I fall asleep in my street clothes
With the lights on
And the radio on
I sleep 'til long past lunchtime
I do not change
And I do not shave
Because no one is going to see me today.

I sit and face the computer screen
And no one's on
So I turn away
I play some chords on my keyboard
And nothing comes
So I turn away
And nothing is going to get done today.

This is the part that ends up on the cutting-room floor
Look down, I'm waving to you from the cutting-room floor
I wave until my arms are numb
And the sun goes down

And I fall asleep in my street clothes
With the lights on
And the radio on
I sleep 'til long past lunchtime
I do not change
And I do not shave
Because no one is going to see me today.
